For a number of years I used to work for Games Workshop in one capacity or the other, finishing off with UK White Dwarf Magazine during the Fat Bloke years. I even worked for a couple of years on the USA version of the same magazine. If your curious you can check out my portfolio here. As of now I am currently residing in the US of A carving a niche for myself here in the colonies. Working in the IT/Graphics/Support division of a small Baltimore company. Before you ask though the only thing I really miss from the UK is a decent cup of tea and of course Jaffa cakes. I hope you enjoy Sigmartyr, its a story I've been wanting to tell for sometime and thanks to discovery of Stikfas, and a good digital camera I can now tell it. Now Sit back, put your feet up and enjoy. Nick Davis Current FAQ What are those figures you are using? Are all the Sigmartyr figures customized? What are your sets made out of? Can I link to your page? What are those figures you are using? Almost all the characters you will encounter in Sigmartyr are Stikfas Action Figures. These are fully articulated customizable Action Figures and are perfect for this type of Webcomic. Check out PaintStik.com to see just what you can do with Stikfas. Are all the Sigmartyr figures customized? Actually not all the Stikfas you will see in Sigmartyr are customized, many of them are just the regular kits. A great place to learn more about Stikfas Stikfans.com What are your sets made out of? Mostly cardboard, texture paint, masking tape and any other bits or pieces I think will work and is cheap. Luckily I have a few years of terrain modelling experience to pull from. Where did you get your vehicles? A lot of the vehicles you will see in Sigmartyr are part of the GI Joe 2.5" range. I also make use of vehicles from the Corps and other sources that use 3.5" action figures. How do you build your Webcomic? I use Adobe Photoshop, Comic Book Creator and lots of tea. What kind of camera do you use? I use a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F88, perhaps one of the best cameras for this type of work. Rotating lens, different light settings and a great macro-lens. Why is your comic Black & White and Grainy? Here is the arty response, Sigmartyr is a dark dangerous world, and I wanted the artwork to reflect this. The grainy look gives worn, tired look like the world is on the edge and civilization is on the verge of total collapse. There are two real reasons why Sigmartyr is in BW, first off some of the visual effects are just easier to pull off. Secondly the comic is a homage to the old UK Action Comics like Warlord, 2000AD, Action & Battle that I used to read when I was a kid. At the moment the look is halfway there, so expect more experimentation, perhaps even color tone changes over. Lets just say Sigmartyr is a work in progress. Why isn't your Webcomic funny? Simply I'm not that good a writer to pull of comedy... And Sigmartyr is violent and unforgiving. This environment is hard to pull off humor in, and beyond the odd dark joke you will very little humor in this Webcomic. How often do you publish? I hope to roll out an episode once a week depending on what is going on in my real life. Each Episode is a multi-page affair, with a lot of work going into each image so you can imagine the work load. Normally I have my kids with me every second weekend, so fitting principle photography and photoshop effect work in, whilst having my children visiting is almost impossible. Most of the time I can catch up with evening photography, and when the scene allows it using the Sigmartyr Sound Studio (aka the living room table). At the moment most of Sigmartyr's photography and sets are based outside. Which means during the fall and winter season evening photography is more dictated the light conditions when I get back from my day job. So in turn during these seasons a realistic goal is to publish two episodes a month, anything else is a bonus. During the Spring & Summer seasons the light conditions allow for more practical evening photography, so in turn I should be able ot maintain a regular once a week schedule. Can I link to your page?
